Social Responsibility

We take social responsibility seriously.

In addition to taking an active part in a number of professional associations, we are Charter Members of Mediators Beyond Borders which seeks to provide mediation services in post-conflict situations around the world and more locally provide pro bono support to the Edinburgh Sheriff Court mediation programme. We are happy to speak to community groups about the use of mediation in reducing conflict and resolving differences.

We are also actively involved in the support of young businesses through our sponsorship of Biobabes Scotland, a network for women in life sciences and through direct mentoring of businesses under the auspices of Entrepreneurial Spark, a comprehensive incubator programme that seeks to take fledgling businesses through to sustainability.  We were previously involved with mentoring companies through the now closed Scottish Environmental Technology Network which supported innovative businesses in the “green” sector.

We are lucky in working with cutting edge companies to see the latest in medical advances but there are many children in the developing world who lack even the most basic healthcare. We are committed to supporting St Andrew’s Clinics for Children who provide this most necessary care to children in sub Saharan Africa. More than 95% of funds raised go directly to deliver front line healthcare. Patricia Barclay is a member of the board and would be delighted to provide further information on the charity or to speak to anyone who might be minded to make a contribution to this valuable and much appreciated work.

Naturally given our interest in this sector we try ourselves to work in a manner that minimises our use of natural resources. We have formalised this into a written policy but see this as a work in progress so welcome all ideas for improving our performance.
